Surah An-Nasr is a Madinan Surah which, according to Imam An-Nasa’i, was the last Surah of the Qur’an as far as revelation is concerned. Despite its conciseness, the surah carries significant lessons simultaneously with news about Islam’s future at the time of its revelation.
He was the practical example of Islam with all its principles, morals, ethics and all. Through him, Muslims came to know all about their faith and the sound and only correct way of worshipping Allah the Almighty.
This gelatinous sheath of the parrotfish is secreted from the upper side of the gill cavity. The fish secretes the substance while it breathes. After a while this sheath covers the entire body of the fish. By doing so the fish places itself within a kind of sleeping bag and becomes protected from external danger at night.
We understand from this ayah that Muslims should be kind and nice to all peaceful people, Muslims and non-Muslims alike. As charity begins at home, a Muslim, be it a born Muslim or a new Muslim should deal fairly and nicely with his fellows especially when they are family or neighbours.
Islam does not tolerate non-Islamic beliefs because it condones them; it definitely does not. It does so because it discriminates between beliefs and believers. Thus while it tolerates the latter and calls for treating them nicely, it does not waver in condemning the former and criticizing them severely.
